Microstructure of neutron irradiated stainless steels
Description
A review is given of some aspects of microstructure in neutron-irradiated austenitic stainless steel, with emphasis on several variables which influence void formation. It is shown that (1) swelling does not saturate with increasing neutron fluence, (2) cold work has major influence on temperature dependence of void formation (swelling), (3) peak swelling in cold work steel is associated with enhanced growth of voids on precipitates, (4) variation of minor alloy constituents significantly influences swelling, and (5) duration of pre-irradiation heat treatment affects swelling. 28 fig
