Future performance problems of nuclear power plants in Czechoslovak electric power system

  • 1. Vyzkumny Ustav Energeticky, Brno (Czechoslovakia)

Description

An analysis was made of some operating phenomena which are linked with the rapid growth of the share of nuclear power plants in the power and generation balance of the Czechoslovak electric power system. That variant of the power system development was studied which is characterized by a level of power consumption in the year 2000 equalling 123.5 TWh/year and installed nuclear capacity in the same year of 11,280 MW. The considered shapes of the diagrams of daily load were partly adapted to the needs of the operation of the power system. The results of the study show among others that in the nuclear power plant at Temelin whose first two units should be started up by the year 2000 it will be necessary to provide the output control of units and to reckon with the use of their installed capacity within the range of 5,500 to 6,200 hours per year. Moreover, it will be necessary to reckon with the integration of these units to meet power requirements within the power system for immediate standby use. Briefly presented are output changes which will have to be controlled in the years 1995 to 2005 in nuclear power plants. The output changes are divided into three categories: daily alleviation, weekend alleviation, weekend shutdown. (Z.M.). 1 fig., 3 tabs., 4 refs
