Description

With a continuous effort in exploring the corrosion diffusion mechanism in boundary layer flows, the authors take the first step to understand the nature of the diffusion process as applicable to the corrosion problem in sea water flow. This paper presents a simple mathematical model for the local mass transfer rate of diffusion processes in laminar boundary flows over a circular cylinder at high Schmidt (Prandtl) number. The Acrivos transformation is used to derive the present theory, which enables one to correlate the local mass transfer coefficient with the local shear-stress coefficient. The theoretical model agrees very well with the experimental data provided by previous investigators
