Cross sections and polarization transfer observables in 12C(p,p') reaction around θ = 0 degrees at Ep = 400 MeV

Description

We have measured for the first time polarization transfer observables in 12C(p,p') reaction at θ = 0 degrees. The preliminary results show that the polarization transfer observable DLL has a large value of 0.7 in the transition to the 12.71 MeV (1+, T = 0) state. In the plane wave impulse approximation the relative strength of the spin dependent central and knock-on exchange tensor terms of the effective NN interaction are almost competing. The large DLL value is consistent with the result of distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA) calculation using the Franey and Love effective interaction. The calculation also predicts large DLL values for other ΔT = 0 ΔS = 1 transitions. They were confirmed in other prominent isoscalar strengths of 12C. (author)
