Beauty and the Standard Model
Description
To study the ρ parameter represents the archetype of all the tests of the Standard Model. A comparison of the theoretical predictions with the experimental data is presented advocating the use of a minimal subtraction scheme. The role of a precise measurement of the Z0 partial width into a pair of b quarks is discussed with a particular emphasis on its significance in constraining the important and as yet unknown effects of the top quark. An attempt is made to present the results without assumptions on the structure of the Higgs sector. (author) 14 refs., 6 figs
