Description

In an attempt to predict natural twinning, a study of the relationship between number of ova, represented by number of corpora lutea (CL), and progesterone hormone concentration in 12 adult does has been observed. The study aims to observe relationship between number of ova, represented by number of corpora lutea (CL), and the progesterone hormone concentration. In this study all animals (n=12) were oestrous synchronized using Estrumate® i.m. injected twice with 10 days interval. The number of ova released from ovaries, which is represented by the number of CL, were observed by laparoscopy application technique. The animals were divided into two groups depending on the number of CL found; K≤2CL and K>2CL respectively. All animals were bled at Day -10, -1, 0, 2, 11 and 21 of the estrus synchronization for progesterone serum analysis using radioimmunoassay (RIA). The result significantly (P < 0.01) confirms relationship between number of ova and progesterone level in blood at mid-luteal phase, which averagely were 4.00 ± 0.89 vs 5.95 ± 0.90 n Mol/L, respectively for K ≤ 2CL and K > 2CL. This study confirms the relationship between number of CL and level of progesterone and leads to prediction number of ova ovulated for twinning program in small ruminant. (author)
