Results on rare B decays from ARGUS

  • 1. McGill Univ., Montreal, PQ (Canada)

Description

Searches have been made for B decays to non-charm hadronic final states, in an effort to determine the strength of the b → u coupling. No evidence is seen for such decays, including no confirmation of the earlier observation of pantipπ± and pantipπ± π-+. Given the long lifetime of the B, the contribution of one-loop decay channels, such as b → sγ and b → s gluon, should be sizeable. ARGUS has made a systematic search for these penguin channels, so far yielding no positive evidence. The sensitivity of these searches approaches a level needed to observe the predicted branching ratios. These results are based on the study of a sample Υ(4S) decays collected at the e+e- storage ring DORIS II at DESY
