Ion energy analysis of a penning ion source using a high resolution mass spectrometer

Description
A new method for determining the plasma potential of a gas discharge ion source is described which is based on the application of a high resolution mass spectrometer. Energy spectra of ions from a Penning ion source with end extraction measured at different discharge modes demonstrate the efficiency of this method. (orig.)
