One Physical Model of an Increase in Carbon Dioxide Concentration in the Upper Layer before Strong Earthquakes

Description
Various geochemical precursors develop before an earthquake. One of them is carbon dioxide, the concentration of which frequently increases significantly in underground waters before an earthquake. Researches prove the opinion, that carbon dioxide is a reliable precursor of an earthquake. The diagram shows variations of carbon dioxide concentration during the 24 october 1992 Dusheti earthquake. The research states possible mechanisms causing sharp variations in the concentration. (authors)
