Degassing from powders and compact beryllium
Description
Gas emission from beryllium powder of different origin and compact beryllium specimens produced under different technological conditions is studied in the process of continuous heating up to 900 deg C using a mass spectrometric procedure for fixing amounf and composition of gases emitted. Hydrogen is a basic gas component in degassing of all studied materials. Hydrogen emergence is associated with interaction between beryllium and moisture sorbed on its surface in the process of its production and storage. Gas content in the powder and in the compact specimens depends on production technique. Preliminary (before hot pressing) degassing of beryllium powders decreases the level of gas emission from compact articles by more than two orders
