Measurement of e+e- pair emission probability in thermal neutron capture by protons

Description
The probability of e+e--pair emission in neutron capture by protons was measured making use of the annihilation γ-spectroscopy method. The result (5.8±2.4)x10-4 contradicts recent relativistic impulse-approximation calculations and agrees with previous calculations. The obtained value excludes also production of the short-lived ''standard'' axion with the lifetime τα<5x10-11 s and the mass mα=1.8 MeV
