Social Impact Due to the Presence of NORM in the Construction of a Mountain Highway, Córdoba, Argentina: The support of a ground geological and radiometric survey

  • 1. National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), Córdoba (Argentina)
  • 2. National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), Buenos Aires (Argentina)

Description

Given the negative social perception and the reaction of environmental groups against the project of a new mountain route in the Punilla department (Córdoba, Argentina), the Government of Córdoba province called on CNEA to carry out a NORM-oriented geological and radiometric survey. The study was focused on the area of influence of the Rodolfo uranium deposit that is crossed by the proposed trace of the road. Despite the fact that the radiological parameters fall within those determined by national and international organizations, the situation has remained irreversible, and the project does not currently have the social license to operate.
