Usefulness of MRI for diagnosis of brain tumors
Description
108 cases of brain tumors were examined by NMR-CT with 0.15 T resistive system. Some tumors present typical signal intensity of their contents, such as cyst, fat, calcification or tumor bleeding, but many tumors are recognized with high intensity in SE (1200/60), and low intensity in IR (1400/400) by elongated T2 and T1 time. SE is useful in detecting tumor with edema. In IR images, tumors locating closely to CSF spaces, are not separated from cisterns or ventricles. In SR images, tumors are appeared to be almost same intensity as the brain parenchyma, but CSF spaces are clearly identified. Definite location of intra- and extra-axial tumors is obvious, with clearly identified subarachnoid spaces and ventricles, even they are narrowed. Comparison of each pulse sequence images and recognition of exact location of tumor in SR is useful for characteristic diagnosis of brain tumors. (author)
