High manganese non-magnetic steel plate, NONMAGNE 30
Description
A non-magnetic steel plate ''NONMAGNE 30'' has been developed and is being utilized in the fabrication of the plasma feasibility experimental device ''JT-60'' at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute. NONMAGNE 30 has a chemical composition of 0.6C-14Mn-2Ni-2Cr which has an austenitic structure. This steel has a very low magnetic permeability, less than 1.02, good mechanical properties, such as a high yield strength of 30 kgf/mm2 and an excellent notch toughness. Furthermore, NONMAGNE 30 has superior weldability and machinability in contrast with conventional high manganese non-magnetic steel. The welded structure of this steel shows no tendency towards occurrence of brittle fracture at normal operating temperatures, and has good fatigue properties. (author)
