Determination of the Concentration of Caesium Atoms in an Argon-Caesium Flow by the Radiation Absorption Method

Description

Caesium atom concentrations in the range 1014 to 1017 cm-3 were determined in a pulsed argon-caesium flow and in a gas at rest. Determinations were carried out by measuring the total absorption of radiation from an incandescent lamp in the region of the 4555 Å resonance line of caesium, the radiation passing through sapphire windows in the tube along which the argon-caesium mixture flowed. After passing through a monochromator, the radiation was recorded by means of a photomultiplier coupled to an electron oscillograph or a moving-pointer recording instrument. The tube with sapphire windows was calibrated for radiation absorption in a thermostatically controlled furnace in which the partial pressure of the saturated caesium vapour was varied. Control caesium concentration measurements by the dew-point method agreed to within ±5°C with the results obtained by the radiation absorption method. (author)

Opisyvajutsja jeksperimenty po opredeleniju velichiny koncentracii atomov cezija v diapazone 1014 - 1017sm-3 v impul'snom potoke argono-cezievoj smesi i v pokojashhemsja gaze. Koncentracija atomov cezija opredeljalas' po izmereniju polnogo pogloshhenija izluchenija lamp nakalivanija v rajone rezonansnoj linii Cs λ4555 Å, prohodivshego cherez sapfirovye okna, vpajannye v trubu, po kotoroj prohodil potok argono-cezievoj smesi. Registracijaizluchenija posle monohromatora proizvodilas' fotoumnozhitelem s jelektronnym oscillografom ili strelochnym priborom. Kalibrovka truby s sapfirovymi oknami po pogloshheniju izluchenija proizvodilas' v termostate, zadavavshem velichinu parcial'nogo davlenija nasyshhennogo para cezija. Kontrol'nye izmerenija koncentracii cezija metodom 'tochki rosy' pokazali soglasie s metodom pogloshhenija izluchenij v predelah ±5°C. (author)
