The environmental implications of nuclear power in South Africa

The article deals with the controversies that exist around the use of nuclear power. The four major criticisms of fission power appear to be fears about reactor safety, radioactive waste storage, financial viability, plutonium and nuclear proliferation. Each of these criticisms is discussed. Proponents for nuclear power point to the growing demand for electricity. In the article a look is taken at the total environmental impact of each of the above policies
