A study of indium alkoxides In(OR)3

  • 1. Rajasthan Univ., Jaipur (India). Chemical Labs.

Description

Two alcoholates for indium trichloride InCl3.3EtOH and InCl32Prsup(i)OH, have been isolated. Indium tri-isopropoxide In(OPrsup(i))3 has been prepared by the reaction of anhydrous indium trichloride with sodium isopropoxide from the medium of benzene and isopropanol. The insoluble methoxy and ethoxy derivatives precipitated out while these alcohols were respectively added to indium iso-propoxide dissolved in benzene. A series of other alkoxides In(OR)3, [where R=(C4H9)sup(n), (C4H9)sup(s) and (C5H9)sup(n)] have been synthesised by the alcoholysis of indium isopropoxide. The tert-bitoxide could be isolated by the transesterification reaction. (author)
