The editor of this series of the Thieme publishing house, Prof. Dr. W. Frommhold, in 1978 suggested to publish a compendium on the then topical new method of CT, in order to present concise and comprehensive information about the potentials and limits of this technique, as well as a detailed account of results achievable at that time with the whole-body computerized tomography. The second edition of the pocket book compendium now available has been completely revised and enlarged so as to cover the latest developments in this field up to the year 1984. The new chapter 'CT of the neck' has been added to the former material, as well as a special article chapter on 'Digital projection radiography', which is made by means of CT. Enlargements include topical information on indications for diagnostic CT examinations of the system of invertebral disks, particularly in the lumber region. Experience with CT examinations of the thoracic organs are found in the revised section on the 'Thorax', and results obtained by meanwhile more than 33 thousand computerized tomographies of the body at Tuebingen University Hospital reflect enhanced experience and skill. More and better illustrations improve the value of this second compendium. (orig./MG)

Mit der Zielsetzung, die Moeglichkeiten, aber auch die Grenzen der Computertomographie aufzuzeigen, veranlasste der Herausgeber dieser Taschenbuchreihe, Herr Prof. Dr. W. Frommhold, 1978 den Thieme Verlag, ein Kompendium vorzulegen, in dem in knapper Form wiedergegeben werden sollte, was derzeit mit der Ganzkoerper-Computertomographie erreichbar und darstellbar ist. In der vorliegenden 2. Auflage wird nun eine umfangreiche Verbesserung und Aktualisierung ermoeglicht, die dem Stand zu Beginn des Jahres 1984 entspricht. Neben der Erweiterung des Textteils, der jetzt auch ein Kapitel 'Hals' einschliesst, wurde ein Separatum 'Digitale Projektionsradiographie', die mit dem Computertomographen aufgenommen wird, integriert. Ganz entscheidende neue Indikationen zur computertomographischen Untersuchung haben sich bei der Bandscheibendiagnostik, insbesondere im Lumbalbereich, in den letzten Jahren ergeben. Die Erkenntnisse bei nunmehr ueber 33 000 Ganzkoerper-CT-Untersuchungen an die Tuebinger Universitaetsklinik spiegelt sich auch in einer Reihe von kleineren Veraenderungen wider, die aufgrund der erweiterten Erfahrung gewonnen wurden. Dabei kommen einige Schwerpunkte der CT-Diagnostik vielleicht etwas ueberproportionalisiert zur Darstellung; sie sind hoffentlich als Ausfluss der besonders intensiven Beschaeftigung zu verzeihen.
