Influence of ionizing radiation type on radiation effects in organic substances (Review)

Description
A review of works carried out in 1968-1986 on clarification of regularities in radiation processes in an organic substance under the effect of various ionizing radiations is presented. Data on chemical, physicochemical and physical stages of radiolysis, changes in macroproperties of the organic materials under radiation effect are analyzed. It is shown that in the majority of cases radiation-chemical yields of intermediate active particles decrease with an increase in linear energy transfer (LET). To solve the problems of dose equivalence the necessity of systematic studies for comparison of influence of various ionizing radiations both with different and similar valus of LET under strictly controlled irradiation conditions is emphasized
