Description
BaF2 scintillators due to their very good timing characteristics are of immense practical application for gamma spectroscopy work. The only drawback being their poor energy resolution compared to NaI(Tl) scintillators. It was, therefore, considered worthwhile to (a) study the effect of cooling on the energy resolution of the BaF2 scintillators of reasonable size (conical, 44 mmφ x 40 mm, 110 deg in this case) commonly used for PAC spectrometers and to ascertain if this cooling could be practical application for mailing large detector arrays and (b) to extend the cooling experiment using a 4mm φ x 200mm quartz light guide to thermally insulate the PM tube to have maximum quantum efficiency of the photo cathode
