Use of Fricke Xylenol Gel dosimeter for dosimetry of radiotherapy equipment

  • 1. Centro Regional de Ciencias Nucleares do Nordeste (CRCN-NE/CNEN-PE), Recife, PE (Brazil)

Description

Xylenol orange and 270 bloom gelatin was added to Fricke dosimeter to obtain the dosimeter Fricke Xylenol Gel (FXG), probably more sensitive to lower doses than 40 Gy. The FXG was shown to be really sensitive to lower doses than 30 Gy. However, this dosimeter, when not irradiated, is degraded in approximately 15 days and when irradiated, needs to be examined quickly, showing some disadvantages when compared to the Fricke dosimeter. This work also reports that the hospitals have been visited showed differences more than 5% between the predicted dose and the dose applied to patients treated with radiotherapy. (author)
