Description
Following a description of the Chernobyl-4 reactor accident, its causes and consequences, the author considers the lessons to be drawn from it, in particular, to what extent it can or should influence the maintenance of nuclear energy in Belgium. He concludes that, given the fundamental technical differences between the Soviet RBMK reactor and the Belgian PWR, such an accident could not occur in Belgium. However, the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, in particular its transfrontier effects have demonstrated the need for an international emergency system, uniform radiation protection standards and better information of the public (NEA)

Apres une description de l'accident du reacteur-4 de Tchernobyl, de ses causes et de ses consequences, l'auteur examine les enseignements a en tirer, notamment, la question de savoir dans quelle mesure cet accident peut ou doit influer sur le maintien de l'energie nucleaire en Belgique. Il conclut qu'en raison de differences techniques fondamentales entre le reacteur sovietique RBMK et le reacteur belge PWR, un tel accident ne pourrait se produire en Belgique. Cependant, les consequences de l'accident de Tchernobyl, en particulier ses effets transfrontaliers ont demontre la necessite de mettre sur pied un systeme d'alerte international, d'uniformiser les normes de radioprotection et de mieux informer le publicAdditional details
