Slow muons and other associated, locally produced particle fluxes at 60 meters underwater

Description

A background-free stack (16 cm3) of G-5 photographic emulsion was poured, dried, and developed in the Hydrolab at Freeport, Bahamas. After development, the pellicles were scanned for slow particles of any kind. Rates for stopping muons, stopping pions and the integral neutron flux (from the recoil proton spectrum) were calculated and comparisons with previous work underground and underwater are made. Also, comparisons with various models for slow particle production rates by the primary muon beam are made. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Ein hintergrundfreier Stapel (16 cm3) der photographischen Emulsion G-5 wurde im Hydrolab in Freeport, Bahamas, gegossen, getrocknet und entwickelt. Nach dem Entwickeln wurden die Filme auf langsame Teilchen jeder Art untersucht. Die Raten fuer Bremsmyonen, Bremspionen und den integralen Neutronenfluss wurden berechnet und Vergleiche mit frueheren Untergrund- und Unterwasserarbeiten angestellt. Ausserdem werden Vergleiche mit verschiedenen Modellen fuer die Produktionsraten langsamer Teilchen durch den primaeren Myonenstrahl durchgefuehrt. (orig.)
