Radiochemical neutron activation analysis method for the determination of 129I in high level liquid waste

  • 1. China Inst. of Atomic Energy, Beijing (China)

Description

A radiochemical neutron activation analysis method is developed to determine 129I in high level liquid waste (HLLW). The 129I is radiochemically separated with the aid of 131I as tracer and then the sample in the liquid form was irradiated with neutron. After irradiation the 130I with iodine carrier was radiochemically separated again and counted in the from of AgI. The 197Au(n, γ)198Au is used as neutron activation monitor. Under neutron flux 3 x 109 cm-2s-1 the sensitivity of this method is 1 x 10-9 g. Twelve HLLW samples are analysed. Owing to the fact the 129I contents are below the sensitivity of the method, the upper limit of 129I concentration can only be obtained
