A report by the Health and Safety Executive to the Secretary of State for Energy on a review of the generic safety issues of pressurised water reactors
Description
The UK study of the generic aspects of PWR safety conducted by the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate is summarised and the main conclusions are presented. Reference is also made to essential supporting technical arguments. Issues selected for consideration were: potential plant faults and their analysis, LOGA, primary coolant circuit integrity, fuel element behaviour, reactor protection system, containment, radiological risk in normal operation and radioactive waste arising on the reactor site. The main conclusion was that there was no fundamental reason for regarding safety as an obstacle to the selection of a PWR for commercial electricity generation in Britain. (UK)
