Some issues in the rehabilitation of former nuclear test sites at Maralinga and Emu in Australia are briefly presented, which include organization and management, objectives and preferred options, criteria for soil cleanup, application of in-situ vitrification, operational health and safety, risk assessment and long term management of post-rehabilitation sites.
