On LWR fuel behaviour during normal operation
Description
This paper starts with a brief description of The OECD Halden Project. The main discussed issues are: 1) Halden Project test programme; 2) Current burnup limits; 3) Fuel behaviour during normal operation, including: thermal behaviour; fission product release; rod mechanical behaviour; 4) Thermal margins. The future trends like: plant life extension; higher burn-up; power up-rates; longer reactor cycles; enhanced operating flexibility; improved materials; doped fuel (additives); corrosion resistant cladding and optimised coolant chemistry are also listed
