The transverse energy distribution in deep inelastic scattering
Description
In the deep inelastic scattering of a lepton off a proton, the energy produced transversely to the proton-photon direction by multiple soft gluon emission is considered. The transverse energy of the final outgoing quark is indistinguishable from that of the soft gluons and is therefore explicitly included. Numerical results for the transverse energy distribution are given for current and future energies revealing a large and experimentally accessible effect. (author)
