Optical properties of an antiferromagnetic ordered TP-violating phase

  • 1. Department of Physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02139 (United States)

Description

We study, semiquantitatively, the optical properties of phases that violate time-reversal symmetry (T) and parity (P). We assume that the TP-violating order parameters have alternating signs in different planes. The rotation angle of linearly polarized light upon reflection is found to be of order 10-5--10-4. We also find that the transmission experiments are unable to probe the antiferromagnetic ordered TP-violating order parameter
