Description
Eight European Utilities and Westinghouse Electric Corporation together with Consortium Genesi (Andalso-Fiat) of Italy, have undertaken a program to evaluate and adapt the Westinghouse passive nuclear plant technology for application in the European Market. Phase I of this program, that started in 1994, has been completed in June 1996. The initial activities have focused on evaluating the impacts of the European Requirements (EUR) on the Westinghouse passive technology nuclear island design. This subject has been presented in a separate paper. Subsequently, a 1000 MWe passive plant reference design (EP 1000) has been established. It is presented into details in this work (description of the plant design and arrangement). It conforms with the EUR and is expected to be licensable in Europe. (O.M.)
