Description
A 10Be study of marine sediments from the Wanganui Basin (Castlecliff Section) has yielded some interesting, though not immediately explainable results. A 5-6 fold increase in 10Be has been identified immediately above the Brunhes-Matuyama paleomagnetic reversal within the sedimentary sequence, ca. 780 ka. The increase in 10Be cannot be attributed entirely to the paleomagnetic reversal, and probably reflects the major global climatic change at that time resulting in an influx of 10Be during post-glacial melting.
