In the first part of the paper, the present aims of the DERE (Dounreay Experimental Reactor Establishment) concerning the development of fast reactors are presented along with a report on operational experience with the DFR. This experience provided the basis for the PFR reactor which has been constructed and started up in the meantime. The size of the prototype was considered particularly suitable for the observation of characteristics also to be found in later industrial fast breeders. A description of the present state of development of the PFR is followed by a discussion of the fuel cycle and the general layout of the PFR. The next pages contain a) data on the general output, the amount of fissile and fertile material, primary and secondary loops and the steam power cycle, and b) descriptions of steam generation in the PFR plant and of a simulator for fast reactors. Finally some details are given on the industrial fast breeders still in the design stage. (GG/AK)

Einfuehrend wird ueber die gegenwaertigen Ziele des DERE (Dounreay Experimental Reactor Establishment) bezueglich der Entwicklung Schneller Reaktoren sowie ueber die Erfahrungen berichtet, die sich aus dem Betrieb des DFR ergaben. Diese Erfahrungen waren grundlegend fuer den jetzt erstellten und in Betrieb genommenen PFR. Die Groesse dieses Prototyps wurde als besonders geeignet fuer Merkmale gewaehlt, die fuer spaetere kommerzielle Schnellbrueter in Betracht kommen. Nach einer Beschreibung des gegenwaertigen Entwicklungsstandes des PFR werden das Brennstoffverfahren und der grundsaetzliche Aufbau behandelt. Es folgen a) Daten ueber allgemeine Leistungswerte, die Spaltstoff- und Erbruetungsausruestung, die Primaer- und Sekundaerkreislaeufe und die Dampfkraftanlage und b) Beschreibungen der Dampferzeugung in der PFR-Anlage und eines Simulators fuer Schnelle Reaktoren. Abschliessend werden naehere Angaben zu den geplanten kommerziellen Schnellbruetern gemacht. (GG)Additional details
