Faraday effect in γ-Dy2S3 and γ-La2S3
- 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad. Fiziko-Tekhnicheskij Inst.
Description
Faraday effect in rare earth sesquisulfides Ln3S3 (Ln-lanthanide) crystallized in the Th3P4 lattice (class 43 m), transparent in the visible range of the spectrum at REE ion concentration equal to 1.9x1022 cm-1 is investigated. La2S3 and Dy2S3 compounds are considered. The calculated curves of temperature and energy dependences of Verde constant well agree with the experimental results. Truth of the assumption of mainly paramagnetic character of Faraday rotation in j-Dy2S3 is confirmed. Magnetooptical activity of the REE sesquisulfide grows with increase of magnetic moments of REE ions attaining the value of 3 min./cm Oe at 600 nm for j-Dy2S3
