Description
Radiation effects are of high importance in the evaluation of the associated risks during professional activities, derived from frequently exposures to sources of ionizing radiation. The software RADRISK has been developed based on transport models from epidemiological studies of population exposed to external low-LET ionizing radiation, and it allows the estimation of radiation effects due to professional exposures. The UNSCEAR 2000 model for skin cancer, leukaemia and other non-solid cancers has been implemented in the software. The code has been applied in several theoretical and practical situations in interventional radiology, estimating radiation effects such as cancer incidence, derived from physical effective doses (TLD's and wrist dosimeters) and biological dosimetry. A complete follow-up should be carried out to the exposed staff, observing the detrimental effects with the estimated ones, for modelling the incidence and mortality cancer models and the deterministic effects that derive from the effective dose received.
