A national program for the determination of 226Ra in public water supplies of Iran

  • 1. Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Teheran (Iran, Islamic Republic of). National Radiation Protection Dept.

Description

In Iran, determination of the radioisotope of radium in water has been limited to a few scientific studies. During the past three years, a national program was established at the National Radiation Protection Department (NRPD) in AEOI for the determination of 226Ra. Gamma spectrometry of 214Bi in equilibrium with 226Ra, gross alpha counting of 226Ra as Ra-Ba-Pb sulphate (co-precipitation) and emanation methods were applied. The program is now in a routine operational stage. In this paper, the methods developed and 226Ra levels determined are presented and discussed. 14 refs, 1 fig., 2 tabs
