On the problem of Nb-Sn phase formation on superconducting Nb3Sn sheets

Description
The Moessbauer spectroscopy method was employed to study the detailed phase composition of a Nb-Sn diffusion layer depending on different conditions of heat treatment. It is shown that the Nb3Sn layer growth does not obey the volume diffusion laWs. Copper addition to the tin bath decreases the temperature of Nb-Sn-phase formation and increases critical currents, which is connected with formation of a fine-grain structure of the Nb3Sn layer. Heat treatment of sheets is developed on the basis of the data obtained
