String theory
Description
String theories are the only candidates for a unified quantum theory of the fundamental forces of Nature. In this review we describe the canonical and functional approaches to the first quantisation of the bosonic string and the Ramond-Neveu-Schwarz superstring, emphasising the structures that characterise string theories and must therefore be present in more realistic string models.
