Description

Coincident data between charged pions or protons and elements of Z ≤ 8 detected over a large solid angle are presented for reactions induced by 94 MeV/u 16O on Al,Ni,Au targets. Charged pion and particle emission is shown to occur via the formation and decay of a highly excited reaction zone, the characteristics of which (velocity, temperature, number of constituent nucleons) are deduced from large angle particle-particle kinematical correlations.
