Influence of cyclic loading on buckling
Creators

Description
Thin structures submitted to compressive loads must be carefully designed in order to avoid buckling. Cyclic strains such as those induced by cyclic thermal stresses can notably reduce the buckling load of the structure. An important experimental programme on thin tubes submitted to constant axial load and cyclic torsional strain is presented. These results are compared with the predicted values obtained by the practical rule against progressive buckling as proposed in the RCC-MR. (author)
