MHTGR/coal gasification
Description
This paper outlines a nuclear/clean coal energy supply option with improved environmental characteristics that uses to the fullest extent the two resources (coal and uranium) that are abundant in the U.S. The major theme of this paper is that, for the forseeable future, the MHTGR will not replace coal, but rather complement it, and the integrating of the two technologies offers a very attractive clean coal option. It is realistic to project that such a plant could be demonstrated early in the first decade of the 21st century
