Nuclear fuel can

Description

Purpose: To reduce the amount of hydrogen to be absorbed in fuel cans which is evolved from primary coolants intruding to the inside of a fuel rod upon fuel failure in BWR type reactors. Constitution: A fuel can is constituted with an outer tubular member made of a zirconium alloy and an inner tubular member made of zirconium containing less than 2200 ppm of oxygen. The inner tubular member is bonded at the entire outer surface thereof to the entire inner surface of the outer tubular member. Zirconium oxide layer of 0.2 μm or more thickness is disposed to each of the entire inner surface of the inner tubular member and the entire outer surface of the outer tubular member. The zirconium oxide layer is formed by annealing the outer tubular member bonded with the inner tubular member in an atmosphere under the humidity of less than 10 % and at a temperature higher than 400 deg C.
