Combination of heavy-ion particle therapy and p53/NF kappaB gene therapy for esophagus cancer

Description
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of combined therapy of p53 adenoviral vector (Adp53) with heavy ion radiation, Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) on esophageal squamous cell cancers. Human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cell line, T.Tn, was used in this study. The efficiency of adenovirus gene transfer into T.Tn was assessed with X gal staining positive cells 24 hours after infection with AdLacZ. In vivo tumor growth inhibition effect of the combined therapy was assessed by using xenograft model of nude mice. Anti-tumor effect of combined therapy was significantly higher than Adp53 gene therapy alone or HIMAC alone. (author)
