Fast electrons, filamented laser light, and the fast ignitor

  • 1. L-472, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, Californaa 94550 (United States)

Description

The energy absorption of an ultraintense laser pulse on a sharp vacuum-plasma boundary is studied. The pulses bore a channel through the corona and produce hot electrons which can be used for the fast fusion ignition. The inclusion of kinetic and multi-dimensional effects are crucial to obtain an adequate description of this plasma-beam system. copyright 1994 American Institute of Physics
