Description
The allowed electric dipole transitions 2 3P2-2 3S1 and 2 3P0-2 3S1 in heliumlike argon (Ar+16) have been observed in a foil-excited beam with a vacuum-ultraviolet monochromator. The wavelengths of these transitions were measured, and the lifetimes of the excited states determined by a time-of-flight technique. The results are lambda (2 3P2-2 3S1) = 560.2 +- 0.9 A, lambda (2 3P0-2 3S1) = 660.7 +- 1.1 A, tau (2 3P2) = 1.62 +- 0.08 x 10-9 sec, and tau (2 3P0) = 4.87 +- 0.44 x 10-9 sec
