Relations between the physiological state of onions and an effective sprout inhibition by irradiation

  • 1. Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, Leipzig (Germany, F.R.). Zentralinstitut fuer Isotopen- und Strahlenforschung

Description

The mitotic activity in shoot meristem was examined during the entire storage period of onions (Allium cepa L.) and was compared with the growth of the inner bud of the bulbs unirradiated and after irradiation. The meaning of cell division at the shoot apex for the sprouting of onions and the effect of γ-irradiation are discussed. (author)
