Description
Studies of the effects of laser intensity nonuniformities on the ablation pressure profile of irradiated Si disk targets were made by measurement of the velocity profile of the shock wave launched into the target. The results show significant lateral smoothing of laser nonuniformities which increases with intensity. Experimental data are matched in two-dimensional hydrocode calculations with classical lateral heat flux
