Reaction of europium oxides with molten polyphosphates of alkali metals

  • 1. Ural'skij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Sverdlovsk (USSR)

Description

Methods of potentiometric titration of the end OH-groups, ESR, chemical, paper chromatographic and IR spectroscopy analyses are used to study interaction of europium (2) and (3) oxides with alkali metal molten polyphosphates. Solubility of Eu2O3 cubic modification in lithium, sodium and potassium molten polyphosphates is higher than that of monoclinic. Europium (2) and (3) oxides interacting with lithium, sodium and potassium polyphosphates at 1170-1270 K decompose them to mono-, poly- and cyclic phosphates and decrease the value of the melt dynamic viscosity. By increase of the temperature of (MPO3)n-C-Eu2O3 composition samples upto 1220 K the process of phosphate polymerization prevail, further increase of the temperature causes their destruction
