Surface-plasma source of negative hydrogen ions

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

Charateristics of surface-plasma source with gas-discharge semiplanotron geometry are investigated. Cathode working surface emitting negative ions has the form of cylindrical flute with the radius of ≅ 2.5 mm. Gas-discharge cover outer surface, being a focusing electrode, forms with the beam boundary 67.5 deg Pierce angle. Gas-discharge cell is in a magnetic field, perpendicular to emission slit. The discharge without electron closed drift, localized near emission slit as well as H- ion geometrical focusing to emission slit are used in the source. H- ion beam intensity is upto 0.2 A, normalized luminosity upto 108 A/cm2rad2, the pulse duration 200 μs, the frequency of banches upto 50 Hz. The source has a simple structure and is highly efficient in generation of H- ions
