RBE of 2MeV neutrons and X rays for the reproductive capacity of mastocytoma cells

Description

The effects of 2MeV neutrons were compared with those of 200kV X-rays for the criterion of lethality in mastocytoma cells of ascites type. The cells prepared as suspension were exposed to the radiations in vitro under aerobic condition and transplanted in the abdominal cavity of mice. Their viability was estimated according to the growing speed of the excreted amount of urinary 5-HIAA in the host animal. The RBE varied between a value of 3,1 at the 10% level of cell survival to 1,8 for the mean lethal dose (D0)

Abstract (French)

On a compare les effets de neutrons de 2 MeV avec ceux de rayons X de 200kV, pour le critere de lethalite chez des cellules de mastocytome a croissance ascitique. Les cellules ont ete exposees en suspension in vitro aux radiations dans des conditions aerobies et ont ete transplantees dans la cavite abdominale de souris. Leur viabilite a ete estimee d'apres la cinetique de rejet de l'A5HIA dans les urines de l'animal hote. L'efficacite biologique relative (EBR) variait de 3,1 pour un taux de survie cellulaire de 90% a 1,8 pour un taux de survie correspondant a la D0
