Two-dimensional model for the scattering of a relativistic electron beam by plasma waves

  • 1. Radiotechnical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow

Description

The scattering of a relativistic electron beam in a field of given plasma waves in a plasma cylinder is studied numerically for the case without an external magnetic field. The beam is assumed to consist of charged rings of infinitesimal thickness. The intensity of the beam scattering is studied as a function of the difference between the wave and the beam velocities and as a function of the radial structure of the waves. Under certain conditons, the beam particles are captured by the radial electric field, and the particles go into radial oscillation
